📄️Data Governance

PCGL has developed a Data Governance Framework to provide clear guidance on the administration, custodianship, and sharing of data available through PCGL. It also outlines ethical considerations and requirements for incorporating data from Canadian research collections, ensuring compliance with Canadian laws and research ethics.

📄️Consent Template to Support Indigenous Data Sovereignty

The PCGL and the Silent Genomes Project Indigenous Background Variant Library (IBVL) have partnered to provide Indigenous individuals and communities participating in research with the option to have their data held under Indigenous protection, governance, and oversight. Together, they developed a Consent Template to Support Indigenous Data Sovereignty that is now available for use by the Canadian Precision Health Initiative (CPHI) projects, as well as any other research projects planning to submit data to the PCGL.

📄️Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

The PCGL has incorporated Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) from its beginning: the Data Diversity and Inclusion working group aims to build a comprehensive understanding of the diversity in Canadian genomic data collections, identify factors relevant to participation in genomic research for diverse groups, and develop guidance documents for the PCGL’s team members regarding best practices to incorporate EDI principles in genomic research.

Partnerships are essential for the long-term sustainability, recognition, and growth of genomic data initiatives. By working with numerous partners from various settings, such as academia, industry, and government, genomic initiatives can secure stable support, exposure, strengthen governance, and maintain high-quality, accessible data. These collaborations ensure that the PCGL remains a reliable, equitable, and impactful resource over time for research and public health.
